After assessing and evaluating the effectiveness and the success of the European Timber Regulation (EUTR) over the past two years, it had to be noted that the EUTR – although covering a great number of timber products – is still showing deficits in its inventory. Consequence of this assessment was that the European Commission should take into consideration that an adjustment of the EUTR’s product scope would be appropriate. Possible options would be subject to an impact assessment.
The Commission has therefore committed itself to launch an impact assessment in order to analyse the effectiveness of potential changes to the EUTR product scope. This public consultation is in line with the Commission’s ‘Better Regulation Guidelines’ and is supposed to include an extensive amount of stakeholders. The questions are mainly focused on finding out whether an amendment of the EUTR’s scope is necessary and if yes to what extent.
You can contribute to this public consultation by filling out the online questionnaire. The questionnaire is available in 23 official EU languages, meaning be given in those languages. It is a complex questionnaire and will take up about 30 minutes of your time. You will, however, have the chance to express your preferences and to make an active contribution towards a vision you might have for the EUTR product scope. You can share this with people, who might be interested stakeholders as well – this is why the Global Timber Tracking Network is sharing this information here. After completing the questionnaire, your responses can be downloaded. A background document about the consultation strategy can be found here.
Please be sure to fill out your questionnaire until 28th of April.
