A new tool to help to choose the wood id method is now available.
GTTN published its timber tracking tool infogram in April, giving an overview of the capacities of the different wood identification methods.
One can base the decision starting with three variables of an identification request: authentication subject, authentication needs and test sample characteristics. Then follow the different options and in this way clarify and specify your identification request. This gives you information on the methods that are suitable or may be suitable (depending on the specific case).
Further development of this tool will be conducted in the Regional Workshop in Beijing and we will discuss (i) how this infogram can be further improved for a second edition, (ii) the opportunities and threats this overview reveals for further timber tracking developments and implementation, and how we can act to grab these chances and avoid or mitigate the risks.
